Summary
This position is responsible for conceptualizing and creating content for on-site and online professional development courses for educators focused on working with English Language Learners (ELL). The PD Specialist will research topical issues related to ELL and Literacy, train on Pearson’s ELL and Literacy products, design instruction for professional development modules, write content based on guidelines, and work with media developers to create polished multi-media presentations for on-site and online delivery.
In addition, the PD Specialist will work with editorial and quality assurance teams to ensure appropriate content references and citations, as well as provide regular project status updates to the Project Manager. The PD Specialist is charged with making sound content and creative decisions, and offering solutions that will help improve educator effectiveness in PreK-12 classrooms.
SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB:
- Work within the ELL PD development team to create suites of ELL professional development products for on-site and online delivery within time and budget parameters
- Research, write and develop high quality ELL professional development content
Responsibilities
- Research Pearson products as well as PD topics (10%)
- Create content for online and on-site courseware and workshop materials (85%)
- Other tasks, as needed (5%)
Qualifications
Experience developing professional development workshops and materials for educators required
Experience as school or district PD coordinator/lead preferred
Strong staff development background and understanding of ELL/ELD and Literacy related issues required
Knowledge of best practices in teaching ELLs
Exceptional ability to conceptualize and execute creative treatments for a variety of media types and audiences
Excellent writing skills
Knowledge of best practices in instructional design for online presentation
Experience working with virtual teams across different geographical sites
Experience managing multiple projects and tasks
Extraordinary organization, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
High degree of flexibility and good humor
Education or equivalent experience:
Minimum of a BS/BA degree; MS/MA in Education with a focus on ELL and/or Literacy preferred
5+ years experience in education and/or instructional design
3-5 years in-district staff development experience preferred
